I'm currently interested in an expensive item, so naturally I'm waiting for Black Friday discounts. But should I take the risk? It's out of stock rn, if it's a popular item how fast will it sell out when sales swing around?

Wow, waiting nearly half a year and through other sales for an item, now that's dedication. I can't tell you if it's worth the risk, that you have to decided on your own based on the item, it's rarity, it's price and your financial situation. I can give you some basic advice about past Black Friday sales which will hopefully help you make a more informed decision.
1. Black Friday sale may not be held on actual Black Friday. Last year, Toydemon held their Black Friday sale around Halloween time. This helped with faster shipping since Black Friday and Cyber Monday are a mess for FedEx. As a kind bonus, it also gives the staff at Toydemon Thanksgiving off and a chance to spend time with their family. They notified and posted news and updates on this websites news as well as mentioned it in other places. Just check up on announcements and news every now and then and you should be fine.
2. Discounts never apply (to my knowledge) to any pre-orders, special orders, and other coded promotions. So if your item is a pricey Special Order torso you will never get it at a discount on any sale so might as well just "take the risk."
3. Black Friday is Toydemons thank you to their loyal customers and fans. Unlike all other sales where it's first come, first serve, on Black Friday your Member Level determines when you'll be able to access Black Friday discounts. For example: Demon members will go first about a week before the sale, then one or two days later platinum members will also have access to the discount, then another day or two later golds will have their shoot alongside Demon and Platinum members. It goes on like that until the advertised day of the sale where everyone is able to access the discount prices. Which means, that if you are a bronze member and the item you want is extremely popular, chances are you will not have the opportunity to buy your toy. If you are not a risk taking, gambling man then just know that you WILL be playing a game of chance with the Black Friday sale. The lower your membership level the higher the risk.

@Vesalligr Given the shortage of supplies right now, I'd just get it as soon as it's available. The price might even increase by the time Black Friday rolls around. I'd just get one as soon as it's available and maybe get a second backup item on BF if you still like it since these items normally don't last that long.
